It was such an honor and a privilege to be able to sit with Dick and interview him about IFS for this episode.  Dr. Richard Schwartz, or Dick as he likes to be called, invented internal family systems therapy over 40 years ago.
In this episode he dives into the history of IFS and how it came to be and the challenges he faced when brining it into the world of psychology.  He discusses what is IFS, parts, and Self.  He also discusses even further in this episode about the Self.  Dick answers questions such as, what is Self? Are we born with Self energy? How is our system impacted by trauma in childhood? Does Self energy grow as we get older? What happens to Self during a traumatic event? Can we see Self?  and, what are Self-like parts?  Dick also shares what he does on a daily basis to connect with his parts in order to make IFS a life practice.  Enjoy!

This episode is a BIG one!  I sit with Dr. Tamara Rosier, ADHD expert and author, about her book, Your Brain's Not Broken: Strategies for Navigating Your Emotions and Life with ADHD.  We talk about what is ADHD, the 'gap' between ADHD and our society, how ADHD isn't a strength or weakness but actually a cognitive difference, how dopamine impacts ADHD, nature as a regulating source for ADHD, the three types of ADHD (hyperactive, hypoactive, and combination), the impact of shaming from parts of ourselves and society, and how anxiety and avoidance can come from protector parts that are trying to manage ADHD.  We get deep in this discussion as we share personal stories from my childhood and how ADHD impacts us both in past and present.

Dr. Tamara Rosier is founder of the ADHD Center of West Michigan, where she and her staff work with individuals with ADHD, and their families, to learn strategies and develop new skills to live effectively with ADHD.  Dr. Rosier is also the president of the ADHD Coaches Organization and is the author of the book, Your Brain's Not Broken: Strategies for Navigating Your Emotions and Life with ADHD.

In today's episode I am joined by my friend and fellow IFS therapist, Thomas Grubba.  Thomas and I discuss how to make the transition from one therapy modality to another, the challenges of turning inside for self awareness, noticing conflicting and simultaneous parts/energies, and the power of naming them; "Hello, anger!".

We also discuss how to use unstructured IFS for self awareness, anxiety and its connection to two parts in polarization, providing a container of Self energy with clients and their extreme parts for safety and healing, and working to turn towards our own parts as a health provider to help create a Self energy space for the client.

Thomas is a licensed marriage and family therapist living in the metro Detroit area.  He works in private practice and is Level 1 trained in IFS.

Ever wonder what your brain looks like?  Or, how your brain functions under stress or doing everyday tasks?  I got to see my brain first hand after doing an EEG with neurotherapist, Stephanie Ryall.

In this episode, Stephanie discusses some of my personal results from my EEG experience with her. We discuss what is neurofeedback and biofeedback, how EEG's help us see neuromarkers for various mental health issues such as ADHD, autism, OCD, PTSD, migraines, panic disorders, and insomnia.  We talk about how CBD and marijuana impact brain fog, ADHD, and focus.  We also discuss how seeing ones brain in this way can help with validation and shame.

"Mental health is measurable now, and it is a disservice to our clients not to show them the invisible"- Stephanie Ryall

Stephanie Ryall is a licensed professional clinical counselor, a nationally certified counselor, and a board certified neurotherapist.  She specializes in adult psychotherapy, neurofeedback, EEG's, and Christian counseling.  She is also the founder of Right Mind Wellness Center in Cincinnati Ohio.
